In 1914, the First World War broke out. The German Empire, the Ottoman Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire were on the side of the Central Powers. The Ottoman Empire was finally defeated along with Germany. After the war, the Ottoman Empire disintegrated and in 1922, the last Sultan Mohammed VI left Turkey. The Republic of Turkey was founded in 1923. The father of Turkey was Kemal Ataturk, who saved the Ottoman Empire from collapse after World War I, pushed back European powers, and brought Turkey into a secular society with theocracy.
